I know you are probably wondering what in the world is this topic about and what is a flake. I am not talking about the flakes you put in your bowl every morning for breakfast or not even the ones that fall out of the sky during the winter. I am going to explain to you the plainest way I can of what a flake is.
Let's see. The Webster's Dictionary defines a flake as a small, flat, thin piece, especially one that has been part of a larger piece or mass. The slang term is an eccentric person or screwball. How many people have you come across in your life that you can categorize as a flake? Would you probably put some of your family members in that category as well?
Why were people coined with the term flake? I'll give you my analogy on the term: a flake is small. A person who's mind is so closed up, that they will continue to think on a Neanderthal level and will fold when they are out of their comfort zone thus making them small minded. A flake is flat and thin. People who have no depth or purpose to their lives will always lead a life that is flat. They will stay within the zone of creature comfort that subconsciously prevents social expansion making them thin. A flake at one point, was part of a larger mass. This is where the people that are closest to you sit. The ones whom you thought would have your back no matter what and then when they are brought out of their comfort zone, they flake on you.
Have you ever heard of the saying, "jumping on the band wagon"? This is where most of them reside. Unfortunately, we are creatures of social habit. We tend to do what we see others do and if someone is doing something different, they are ostracized until they prove that different is better. How many folks do you think flaked on Harrison Ford before he landed the hit role of Indiana Jones? I'll tell you that he built a lot of decks and stage sets in Hollywood to get where he is.
A flake will be the first to tell you that you can't do something. Why is this? Is it because they lack the intestinal fortitude and courage to withstand the masses? Or is it because they are a "I have to see it to believe it" person? Anyone could pretty much draft up a few hundred words as to their definition of a flake, because we have all experienced this in our lifetimes by either being the flake or getting flaked on.
The best solution I came up with to avoid getting caught up in the flake system is to surround yourself with people who want to win in life. Change the scenery in your life by putting people and things in it that will benefit your success. Having people in your circle that have no interest in your success will get you thrown into the circle of flakes. Eliminate the dead weight in your life and I guarantee things will get much better for you.
I hope that my words give hope and inspiration to those who need it. Success starts out by helping others. This is what I am good at and like to do. This is my way of giving back. Keep your head up and keep the flakes out of your life.
